Building the starter kit
The crate is usually the single biggest line. A giant Greater Swiss Mountain Dog needs a crate it can stand and turn around in — for fast-growing breeds, buy for the adult size with a divider rather than replacing it twice.
Bowls, a leash-and-collar set, and a few durable toys round out the essentials. Many of these are one-time buys that last years, so spending a little more upfront on a chew-proof bed often pays off.
